Laminate Guide

Barb-Lin Carpet One Floor & Home of Doylestown, PA is your local retailer for laminate flooring. Our flooring specialists understand laminate floors and can help you learn if it is the right choice for you. We feature an assortment of in-stock and special order laminates that can fit just about any budget you come into our showroom with.

Laminate was first positioned as an alternative to hardwood, and today’s technology has made laminate look more realistic than ever before. Our selection of laminates will surprise you as to how close they resemble hardwood & tile floors.

What makes Laminate Different from Hardwood?

If you love the look and feel of hardwood or tile, but need something at a lower cost and is easier to maintain, then laminate may be a good choice for you. Since laminate is made with synthetic products it is significantly less expensive than hardwood or stone. Dents and scratches are less likely to occur in laminated floors compared to hardwood and does not need to be refinished like hardwood does.

Although laminate manufacturers have seen much advancement in digital printing technology to make laminates look as real as wood, it can never replace the beauty and feel of hardwood floors. Laminate floors are less expensive in both material and labor costs as opposed to hardwood. Therefore, if price is a major issue, laminate should be considered.

Laminate Installation

Laminate floors come in a floating floor system. They are never glued down to the subfloor. While this makes laminate easier to install it sometimes sounds more hollow than a hardwood floor. A benefit that a floating installation has is that it is easier to replace if you change your flooring as compared to a glued down product which can require a lot of labor. If you're considering putting down a hard surface for temporary use whether it be laminate or hardwood, consider a floating installation.

Laminate flooring requires the least maintenance of any floor in the industry. Regular sweeping and vacuuming are the best ways of taking care of laminate floors. Spills should be wiped up immediately and occasional mopping with manufacturer approved products is recommended.
